Well this really is day 1. I’m aiming for Mildura, and spending tonight in my tent in a caravan park in Wedderburn. I’m sitting here in the cold at my first campsite. I have my tent set up, I’ve made myself a cup of tea and am wondering how I’m going to go get dinner with this wind blowing. Will my tent still be here when i get back? Its so windy. I brought some dried macaroni and cheese, perhaps I’ll make that instead, and stay here. I just discovered a camp kitchen with jug, microwave fridge and sink. That will make life easier.
Three things i wish i bought, a longer power cord, a hair tie and tissues. I thought my cord was long enough, but in reality i have to put my tent right ontop of the power point, which is ok, except the tap is there too. And the wind! My hair is driving me crazy! I need to tie it up! Tissues…the wind and my hair is making my nose so itchy!
In fact theres a long list of things i wish i bought, a hat a coat, gloves, cold pack and i hope i left my watch behind because i can’t find it!
It is actually quite cold. Lucky i brought my dressing gown! I’ve just finished bisuits and dip and my cup of tea. Blimey I’m cold. Brrrrr.I might have to climb into my tent. Lucky i got a powered site, there wouldn’t be much to do otherwise! Theres a few people in this caravan park, but they’re all inside their vans and I’m the only one in a tent. Not much grass here either.
So, the opshopping, well it wasn’t terribly successful. The first place i went to in Broadford was closed. Never mind, it was a Salvos anyway. I much prefer those little independent op shops anyway. Next stop Heathcote. The town that Brett has memories of when he was about 20 being there and not seeing a single soul. Certainly a lot more busy now (that was after all, how many years ago??), its a nice little town, lots of coffee shops as usual. There was a old church hall selling art & craft and bric & brac, run by a little old lady. I thought to myself, she’ll know where all the op shops are in this town. Sure enough she did, there are two, and my favourite type, little independent ones, BUT closing at 2, and guess what time it was. Yep, 2! But I’m keen to go back to them.
Bendigo was next, there was a Vinnies and a very expensive Community Care and a Red Cross, also expensive and a bit dissappointing. I am keen to get myself a hat, a thermos (i should have brought mine from home), a mug and saucepan. In the end i went to the Reject shop (mollie, thanks fo my discount!) for the saucepan….. Anyhow my favourite op shop of the day was in Bridgewater on Loddon, another one that was closed, it was an old church that had tables in front with stuff for donation. And food. It was a bit odd, but i got myself a beautiful fine bone mug. And everyone knows you can’t drink tea from any old mug! Fine bone is the way to go!
Anyhow its 8.00 now. I’m not leaving the tent now, its cold and I’m comfy in my sleeping bag!
You can borrow stuff from me when you get to Mildura. Beanie, jackets and so on. Being cold is no fun.. see you soon ???
Thank you. And its freezing in Canberra too, so your clothes have been excellent, and i wore that dress again to my niece, Maya’s mocktail party!
Warracknabeal in the Mallee has the best op shop I have ever been to.
Ooh, sounds good, a bit out of my way for this trip, but if I’m out that way in the future….
Hope you’re finding some good books to rug up with!!
I’ve actually not read anything at all! Not like me…
